Aromatic Oils
Mother Nature provides us with
these amassing healing tools.
Yes! They are merely
tools to assist you in your attempt to heal your life. As they work on all four
levels, perhaps merely is not a good word to use. Tools they definitely are.
Understanding of course
that the most powerful tool of all; is your mind and your attitude to
life as a whole.
Considering that all of
life is a spiritual lesson, whatever comes your way is a lesson you chose to
learn.
These oils represent the
essence of the plant they have been extracted from. By this I mean, it
represents;
v The
chemical properties-- the combination of chemicals that are the plant’s juice.
These are extracted mostly by distillation.
v The
energetic properties-- by extracting the chemicals from the plant, the plant’s
energies are transferred with them.
There are only two oils
you can use directly on your skin and these are Lavender and Tea Tree. All the
others can harm your body if not diluted and as a result it is recommended you
dilute the oils and use with care. If you are not sure of the dilution use the
table in Appendix A.
If you have any
questions about Aroma oils and Aromatherapy. Please consult an Aromatherapist
in your area.
Aroma
oil uses:
Only Lavender and Tea
Tree can be used in undiluted form.
Massage is the most common
method of introducing essential oils into the body. Blend the essential oils
into carrier oil.
Tissue or handkerchief: place one drop on the
tissue or hankie and inhale when required.
Inhale as a vapor: 2 to 3 drops in a bowl
of hot water. Cover your head with a towel and lean over the bowl with your
face about 250 cm away and your eyes closed. (Eyes are sensitive to essential
oils. Make sure to dry your face before opening your eyes.)
Bath: use up to 8 drops per
bath. Run the bath and then add the bath blend. Soak for at least ten minutes,
relax and breathe the aroma in deeply. Remember to mix the aromatic oil into a
carrier oil.
Sauna: 2 drops per 600 ml
water. Use eucalyptus, tea tree, or pine oils. Mix in the water beforehand and
throw onto the heat source as usual.
Shower: wash as usual. Add the
essential oil to your face cloth or sponge and rub it over yourself briskly as
you continue to stand under the running water. Breathe the aromatic steam in
deeply. It is recommended to mix the aromatic oil into a carrier oil.
Candles: light a candle and wait
until the wax begins to melt and then add the oil to the warm wax. Essential
oils are inflammable so do be careful not to get them on the wick. You can use
pure essential oils for the candles.
Room Sprays: four or more drops per
300 ml water. Put warm water into a sprayer and add the essential oils and
shake well. (Use eucalyptus to prevent the rest of the family getting the ‘flu)
Water bowl: add 1 to 9 drops of
essential oil to boiling water.
Wood fires: 1 drop per log. Use
cypress, pine, Sandalwood or cedarwood oils. Put 1 drop on each log leave for
half an hour before using. One log per fire will be sufficient.
A list of Aromatic oils
are described in Appendix B of the book. www.alkemras.co.za/lifecoach.html
Massage Technique
Before starting the
massage, mix the oils. Making sure your friend is happy with the oil. If your
friend would like a body brush, please do so with a gentle stroking action, to
stimulate the skin to make absorption of the aromatic oil more effective.
Start on the back; get
your friend to lie down on the stomach, unclothed. Place a towel over your
friend’s buttock and legs. Start without oils: place your left hand on the
friend’s elbow, the right hand on your friend’s solar plexus– middle of the
back. Gently rake your right hand up to the top of the head. Do this 3-5 times,
until the scalp relaxes. This relieves tension in the scalp.
Move your left hand to
the right side of the head to support the head, with the right hand’s thumb
press on the Lymph nodes at the base of the scull and up the middle, on the
right side use your index or middle finger and move your supporting hand to the
left side of the head. Do this 3-5 times. This decongests the lymph nodes.
Move to the back and
start using the oils. Place oil on your hands and touch your hands together, do
not rub your hands together.
Start by placing your
hands next to each other at the base of the back and move your hands with a
firm jet gentle stroke up the center of the back, coming down the side with you
finger tips facing the front of the body. At the base of the back, turn your
hands toward each other, once your hands passed each other press and push your
hands down the sides. Pull your hands up to the center gently and start again,
do this 3-5 times or until the oil is evenly distributed, this movement is
called effleurage and it distributes the oil and stimulates the adsorption of
the oils.
Press, with thumbs
facing each other, just next to the spine, starting at the base and moving up
to the head. This stimulates the ganglia. Do this at both sides of the spine
3-5 times. Sweep, still with your thumbs facing each other, from the base to
the head 3-5 times.
Scoop from the outside
to the spine, in 3 rows 3-5 times. The scoop starts with index fingers on the

your hands and pull them toward you. To keep your back straight, your knees
should be bent with the movement. Repeat 3-5 times on both sides.
Lumbar area: start with
effleurage, as for the whole back. Only start at the dimples of the buttock and
end at the upper lumber area. Repeat 3-5 times.

the dimples. Using your thumbs make circles at the side of the spine. Repeat
3-5 times.

This information is
added in this book to assist you and your friends and this by no means makes
you an Aromatherapist.
Eleanor regularly has an
aromatherapy treatment; to her this is her “preventative medicine”. “I love
these oils, the mere fragrance of some of these oils make me feel much better.
However they are a lot more useful than lovely smells. It is no wonder that
they have been used as “medicine” since the beginning of time. Every minor
ailment can be healed with a combination of these oils. The beauty of these
oils comes in the fact that they work on the physical and energy level.”
